One of the wars he was in was the battle of New Orleans which he served under colonel Andrew Jackson. He served later as a drummer in the Mexican war.
As Andrew Jackson’s drummer during the Battle of New Orleans, the brave fourteen-year-old who enlisted in the 7th Regiment of the U.S. Army beat out a continuous drum roll throughout the foggy battle on a January morning. Jordan also served in the Florida War in 1836 his second war, and the Daily Picayune 1855 article went on to state that besides serving Old Hickory, Jordan served in his third war under Gen Taylor, on the fields of Mexico. It had been his fortune to have come under the immediate observation of these men, both of whom had taken him by the hand and complimented him for his services, not caring whether his skin was white or black. His country had acknowledged those services by placing him on a footing with her other defenders, and bestowing on him the same reward.

Drum is one of the oldest musical instruments and is a member of the drum family. The drum family consists of instruments that are played by striking them with the hand, sticks, or other objects. Drums have also been used for many other purposes. For example, people of many cultures have used drums to communicate over long distances.
The snare drum consists of a cylinder that was made out of either metal or wood with a drumhead covering each opening. The drumhead is also known as the batter head. The opposite one is called the snare head. About 12 strings stretch across the snare head. These strings were called snares. A drummer strikes the batter head with two wooden sticks. The snares vibrate against the snare head, producing a full, crisp sound.
